What is an IP address?

IP address is the address of your computer, it adds the address of the recieving and sending computers so that the correct computers recieve and transmit the data.

A router is a device that interconnects two or more computer networks, and selectively interchanges packets of data between them. Each data packet contains address information that a router can use to determine if the source and destination are on the same network, or if the data packet must be transferred from one network to another

A switch refers to a network bridge that processes and routes data at the data link layer (layer 2) of the OSI model

A network hub is a device for connecting multiple twisted pair or fiber optic Ethernet devices together and making them act as a single network segment. Hubs work at the physical layer (layer 1) of the OSI model

Media Access Control address (MAC address) is a unique identifier assigned to most network adapters or network interface cards (NICs) by the manufacturer for identification, and used in the Media Access Control protocol sub-layer. If assigned by the manufacturer, a MAC address usually encodes the manufacturer’s registered identification number

Moore’s Law

Moore’s law describes a long-term trend in the history of computing hardware, in which the number of transistors that can be placed inexpensively on an integrated circuit has doubled approximately every two years. The law was stated by Gordon E. Moore. He was the co-founder of intel, and proclaimed this law in a 1965 paper. The law was stated as “Moore’s Law” in 1970 by Carver Mead. The law has been proving to be roughly right thus far and it is expected to continue until roughly 2015.

Chrome OS to launch soon

Google said that their OS should be available in fall, and according to a reliable resource, it will be available to download within a week. This will be a very limited version however, due to googles problem of getting driver support. Without driver support, many computers and notebooks will not be able to use this OS. This could be a huge problem for google, because people want to be able to install this on any computer and have it work automatically.

Google will most likely have a few notebooks or laptops that are guaranteed to work with google Chrome, or maybe even come with it installed already. Google is currently talking about delas with several computer manufacturers such as Toshiba and HP.

Modern Warfare 2 sells 7 Million copies on the first day

Early data has shown that Modern Warfare 2 will be proven to be the fastest selling game of all time. It has already surpassed huge titles like Halo 3, and even Grand Theft Auto 4. On the xbox 360 alone, it is projected to sell over 5 million copies in the first week.

If the sales continue at the rate that they have been going, Modern Warfare 2 will go down as the fastest selling game of all time. Shattering the records set by Grand Theft Auto and Halo.

Google Android

Google Android is google’s first attempt at an operating system. It is directed mostly towards netbooks and cell phones. The main selling point of android is that it is open source, this means that anybody can edit it to their liking.

My two favorite topics out of the top 5 technologies stories this week were “Very Creative Advertisement from WWF,” and “Windows 7 release Candidate 1′s Best Surprise New Features.” I liked the WWF advertisement, because like the title says, it is very creative, and well made. It shows that the environment is dying by showing two forests in the shape of lungs, and one of the lungs is being clear cut. The reason that I liked the new release of Windows 7, is because I have tried the beta, and I am interested to see what has improved. I will for sure be switching over to the new OS when it comes out, as it is a much better OS than Vista. Also, the default backgrounds are crazy haha.

Uses for Google Sketchup

Google Sketchup is a simple free 3D editor. It is useful because you can see 3D renders of buildings on Google Earth. It is also a useful tool for drafting. It could be used for finding the scale of buildings compared to pre-existing ones. It could also maybe be used in simple video games.
